The growth of the Internet has made it easy to make money writing at home. Anyone with a website can get more traffic to that site by using article marketing. Unless they want to spend hours and hours writing, many of these online marketers are happy to pay you to write for them. They need a constant supply of new articles in order to get good results from an article marketing campaign.

You don’t have to have a degree in writing to make good money writing for the Internet. Often you will be able to write without doing much research because many topics involve everyday experiences, services, and products. Simple, straightforward, conversational writing is a lot more effective than a formal, academic style.

There are hundreds of freelance writing jobs posted online every day – on sites like Craigslist, Elance, and Guru. Plus, you can find Internet marketers looking for articles by joining an online forum, going to seminars, and even by attending local networking events in your own community. Often, local business owners also need articles to help generate business through their websites, too.

Pricing for articles varies a lot, but it’s not hard to find projects that pay $25 or more per article. This can translate into an hourly rate of $100 or more once you get good at writing articles. Sure, there are clients out there who want to spend no more than $5 per article, but there are many more who understand the value of well-written articles. They’re likely to pay well and order articles every month.

You can find writing clients by attending marketing seminars, too. Internet marketers invest a lot of time and money in continuing education, and by attending live training events, you may be able to connect with new clients who need your services.

You can provide extra value to your clients by offering to perform article submission services for them. Having the articles is only part of a solid article marketing campaign – they must be submitted online in order to get results. While the process of submission isn’t exactly exciting or creative, it’s easy and if you create a system for doing it efficiently, you’ll be able to provide this add-on service and help your clients get even better results.

Once you’ve mastered writing simple articles, you can expand your writing services to provide even more to your clients. These same buyers likely also need press releases, ebooks, sales copy, and website copy. They may also need print materials such as brochures and direct mail pieces. With all these projects, it’s easier than ever to make money writing.

Is that real?

There are lots of sites out there that promise you can make millions just writing little bitty blog posts. Sounds suspicious, right?

While I definitely want to encourage you to use your skeptical mind every time you go online so you don’t end up with a bunch of junk and worse yet, broken dreams, let me just paint a little picture about making money with blogs for you.

A little story…

I’ve just been traveling for about 10 days straight, helping my hubby with a series of interviews for an absolute dream position. This position’s so good that we can see spending the next 2-3 decades there, in fact. Very exciting trip, although super-long.

Just about all I could think of as I came through our front door after hours of travel is how good it’ll feel to sleep in our own bed tonight.

I greeted the dogs, checked the mail, and then noticed our bedroom door was closed. Odd, because we didn’t leave it that way. Maybe the pet sitter closed it? I went over to take a look and found…

Oh boy. That would be why the door was closed. The dog decided our Tempurpedic was the ideal place to dig while we were gone.

Doug broke out the duct tape and some little memory foam mattress he had from a camping trip way back, and went to town. We’ll see how long it holds, but at least for a while, it may be okay.

All I can say is, it’s a good thing that dog is cute.

OK, so a little story (sadly very true, very recent!). How on earth could you make money writing blogs like that? Here are just three quick ideas:

1. Internet marketers know one of the best ways to grow their site is to add fresh content on a continual basis – and a blog makes that task easy. Of course, it’s even easier if you can hire someone to do it for you! And it’s more likely to actually get done. Can anyone see the money-making potential here?
2. Small business owners also are beginning to learn the value of having a blog attached to their site. Again, it’s all about having fresh content to entice Google to like the site. Again, there may not be anyone busier than a small business owner. They’re doing everything from marketing to bookkeeping – plus whatever their actual business is about! What if you had a small business owner client who had a dog training service? Think a blog post like this might help? Think it might help ease the load for a small business owner if they could outsource their blog? See the money-making potential here, too?
3. What if you were a dog trainer, or were an affiliate for someone selling dog training books – or mattresses, for that matter! Think a blog post like that might be useful in directing very targeted traffic (someone whose dog just ate their mattress!) to make a purchase? You bet! And there are affiliate marketers out there making millions each year.

Now, of course, you’ve got to find blog writing clients – at least for the first two items in the list. And then you’ve got to know how to price your services, create a proposal, write your post so the search engines like it, and all of that – but all that’s easy. You can sift through a bunch of research online and teach yourself – or I could show you how to get and do all the most common freelance writing gigs.

But as usual, the problem isn’t so much learning HOW… it’s recognizing the opportunity in front of you – and having the courage to do what it takes to earn a living from your unique gifts and talents.

OK, so, any advice you want to share on blogging? (Or for me on how to get this crazy pooch to behave!?)

That’s a great question I’ve gotten a few times – so let’s take a look at what’s involved.

For one thing – research.

Obviously the fastest projects to write are on topics you know well enough that you can just write off the top of your head, maybe do some fact checking here and there, and they come out with a level of credibility and expertise that makes them valuable to readers. Everyone’s got several areas like this, where they could literally write the book on a handful of subjects.

As a general rule, the faster you can write, the more money you can make from writing. With that in mind, and knowing not every project will tie into your knowledge base, knowing how to do fast research is a good thing, too.

A little story:

Had a client who needed a boatload of articles on a really, really technical subject. It involved cabling, network security, disaster recovery… stuff like that. I know absolutely nothing about those topics. I can barely work our VCR (yeah, still have one) and need our teenager to come help me work the DVD player. If something comes unplugged, it stays that way. Protocols, wiring types, fiber optics, all that kind of thing is a sure conversation to make my palms sweat.

Oh yes. They needed this content within four days, and the pay was great. So, highly motivated to learn all I could to at least be able to write about it without sounding like a complete moron!

Resources that worked:

• Wikipedia – to at least get some sort of a layman’s understanding of what on earth I was about to write about. Also paid a visit to About.com. They’ve got info on just about every topic under the sun – and then some.
• EzineArticles.com – Helpful for getting information on tips, how-to’s, and other basics that gave me a bit more traction. Also visited GoArticles.com, Squidoo.com, and ArticlesBase.com.
• One more that was so clever I even amazed myself – I searched in Google for forums related to the topic so I could do a search for some of the keyword terms the client provided. That’s a good way to find experts’ opinions about almost any topic.

If I’d had more time, I would have interviewed the client as well, using these magic words:

Please explain this to me as if I were a five year-old. Make it THAT simple.

Works every time!

After you do your research, you have to somehow digest this info enough to be able to reword and repeat it. Two keys here:

1. Close what you used for research. Not that you’ll intentionally plagiarize, but with it closed, it’s far less likely that you’ll reuse phrases you just read.
2. Write FAST. The more you stew, the more you go into resistance about what an awful project it is, the more you try to wrap your whole brain around the topic, the worse it will get.

A final tip – be sure when you send your articles to your client to refer to them as being a draft. This way, if you’ve been completely blown off-course, the client doesn’t have that panic moment of wondering whether they’re stuck with useless articles.

Who else has tips about writing about unfamiliar topics?

Meanwhile, may I know if writers from outside the U.S. (I am from the Philippines) who are non-english natives have any good chance to make it as successful freelancers and be paid beyond the very low rates of $1-2 per article? Would your e-book help me to have opportunity to earn much more from freelance writing given my location?

Honestly, I don’t know for sure… but I strongly suspect it would work. Here’s why:

The Growing Internet
There are an estimated 60 billion websites out there online, and they’re from all over the world. Every single one of these sites needs text, needs articles to help promote it and get traffic, needs press releases, needs a blog. While a huge number of these sites are “junk” or just sitting there getting stale and neglected, some decent percentage of the sites are active. They’re not all in English, by a long shot!

People all over the world use the Internet to find what they need – products, services, and local businesses. Especially with local businesses, my guess would be there is a LOT of work out there for freelance writers everywhere.

More Than One Way
Early on, I relied a lot on finding work through Guru.com. That site is definitely English-oriented, although I’ve seen projects involving other languages from time to time. I don’t know whether you’d be able to command a premium price there coming from a country where English isn’t the primary language. It’s possible, but most likely clients will see the location and expect a deal. However, clients who are local to you… that’s another story!

You’ll Still Need…
You might need to get out there and do more marketing than someone who can just use Guru to get started. You’ll still need to learn important skills to help you write different types of freelance writing projects. You’ll still need to perfect your grammar and style. You’ll still need to learn how to handle your business as a business (time management, customer service, invoicing, etc.).

All in all, I feel pretty confident that a writer anywhere in the world – with good basic writing skills – can build a thriving writing business… from nothing!

The Bootcamp actually came from the Mastermind.

After several people bought my system to learn how to get paid to write, several of them wanted ongoing coaching as their businesses started to pick up momentum. Just knowing there was someone there to help if they got stuck on pricing, on how to do something, on whether they were doing it ‘right’ was a huge help. That plus the fact that very few freelance writers find themselves in regular contact with other writers (it can get solitary and isolating if you’re not purposeful about connecting with people), and the fact that we’ve got an insatiable desire to learn more – all that came together to make group coaching a great idea.

But after a while, I found that the best way to help these writers move forward faster in their businesses was to equip them with more skills. While you can definitely earn a full-time income writing articles, it’s easier to reach the same income goals with higher-paying gigs like website content, sales letters, press releases, and ebooks. But it can be a challenge to bid on projects like that if you’re not totally confident you know:

• What does the client want?
• How much should I charge?
• How do I actually DO the project if I get the gig?
• How do I get the gig in the first place? Where are the best clients for this?

Mastermind was originally intended to be a forum for answering your questions, for helping with the mindset piece of being a successful freelance writer, to provide a venue where you could get feedback on your writing (from me and from the other mastermind members), and where we could learn together from others in our field.

I’d missed a step along the way! Bootcamp!

So, how was I going to get you all the how-to’s, the nuts and bolts that would make it easy and fast for you to learn how to do all those projects the original system teaches you how to GET? (Throw in the fact that I sometimes have the attention span of a rabbit – I can teach a skill set once or twice, but beyond that I get antsy.) Bootcamp. It’s a series of video lessons showing how to do the six most common writing projects you’ll encounter – plus all about the top three places to find clients, pricing, proposal templates, all kinds of goodies like that. For that you pay a one-time access fee. Any time I add content, it’s included – no extra investment needed there. Pretty cool, right?

That leaves Mastermind.

My thought is that I’ll make Bootcamp a prerequisite for Mastermind, just so everyone’s working from the same playbook and has the same basic skills. I’d love for it to be a sort of advanced group coaching program – probably running 3 months at a time. I’m currently in two masterminds (one for internet marketing and the other for life in general) and we meet weekly on the phone. It’s been life-changing for me (and I think the other members would say the same).

My family’s about to move to another part of the country (we’re not sure where yet – hubby’s candidating for several different churches, and it’s coming down to decision time). So, it would not be before, say, October that I’d be able to start another round of Mastermind up.

If you go online and look for ways to make money from home, you’ll find millions of search results, ads, and promises of getting rich overnight… if you’ll just send $19.95, give all your contact info, and agree to receive about a thousand emails. No wonder people ask this question so often.

A little story:

Jennifer was looking for a way to make money from home. She was pregnant with her first child, and wanted to be able to quit her job and stay home with the baby. Of course she went online looking for a solution. Seemed like all she was finding was sites where she could be a mystery shopper, assemble crafts, send emails (what the heck?), or place ads that were supposed to somehow bring a steady stream of cash right into her inbox.

She also ran across some articles talking about how she could make money writing for article directories. Apparently, if she wrote a good article and enough people actually read it, she could make $20, $30, or even more with each article. She’d read other articles that warned against paying for any sort of resource where she could get access to paid jobs. So, she figured these sites were her best bet – after all, she wouldn’t have to pay, and she might make some money.

She wrote article after article, submitting, revising, and waiting for her readership to reach the threshold where she’d finally get paid. Nothing. All that time spent, and never enough click-throughs to generate a check.

Disgusted, she gave up and wrote it all off as a waste of time.

So, what went right? What went wrong?

Jennifer was smart to do her research. She got good information when she stumbled onto the idea of writing for money.

And a healthy sense of skepticism is a good thing to have.

But, it is possible to take it too far – essentially hobbling yourself as you go after what you want, and then be left wondering why “nothing works for me.”

If you were buying a franchise… you’d pay a million dollars (or close to it).

If you were buying a college education… you’d pay thousands of dollars (and still no guaranteed income).

If you were buying a distributor kit with a network marketing company… you’d pay hundreds of dollars (again, no guarantees).

So when I hear of writers whose ONLY plan to make money writing is to write (essentially on spec) for sites like Associated Content, Demand Studios, and Suite 101 – because they won’t have to lay out any cash – I get frustrated. Guru now has a deal where for $25 you can bid on up to 100 projects in a month. That’s 5 bids a day, 5 days a week during the work week! Sound familiar?? I’ve only been stressing that for YEARS!! : ) And these are people who are ready to pay for writing! Not a few cents… not a few dollars (although there are clients like that there, too)… but $10, $15, $25 or MORE for articles.

Yes… you can make money writing without spending money. But you’ll be doing it the hard way.

Yes… I’ve got a better way, and it’ll probably work for you if you can follow directions : ) (and if it doesn’t work for you, there’s a pretty generous guarantee policy).

Yes… you could probably teach yourself how to do it – and make all the same mistakes everyone makes. And my guess is you won’t make money writing nearly as quickly as Numair did that way!

Remember those days of checking your jeans pockets to find change for a Coke? Hoping you’d find a summer job that would at least let you have enough left over after buying books that you could do something fun?

25 dollars, and I was granted 100 proposals. A proposal is basically a response
to a job. Somebody puts on a job, and you bid on that job. A bid and a proposal
are synonymous. Whenever you bid on a job, you lose one of your 100 proposals.

took me one week to write. It was a ghostwrite, which means that I write the book, and
somebody else gets all of the credit.

I got paid 700 dollars for that job. In that same timespan, another man paid me 56 dollars
to write 8 articles.

Life is...strange. Writing articles really does give you cash. And, look at me, I'm 21.
I'm in college. I'm on summer break. I don't even have a degree yet.

so far I've met with rejection; however, people love it when i charge 7 per article.
And you know what? Something is still better than nothing, right? I am going to share
with you some powerful tips as to how you can also make a ton of money through Guru.com.

1. Believe you can. You must operate your life from a physiology and psychology of
excellence. You must believe that you have the very thing you desire. Then, you will
have Inspiration to carry on through.
2. GO SIGN UP. It's 25 dollars. You're going to waste that money on coffee, cigarettes,
and a bunch of other things that have no intrinsic value.
3. STOP trying to be a used car salesman. You have 100 chances. Don't waste them. Stop
looking at people as if they are dollar bills. Connect at the heart. When somebody puts
out a job offer, read that offer clearly. Then, tailor your proposal to match that client's
desire. You can write a very long, detailed, proposal. And, I recommend that you actually do
that. Be detailed. Most people are going to give generic, canned, two line responses. Don't
be like most people.
4. Have the AUDACITY to charge extra. Most people are going to try to undersell you.
People will try to sell their stuff for 4-5 bucks per article. You must be the one who charges
15 dollars, 25 dollars, 30 dollars.
You have to go to extremes. You have to realize that people want quality, and it is VERY
hard to find a good writer.
If you charge high rates, people will expect you to write amazing articles, and you will
expect yourself to do the same. Once you gain trust, it's all gravy from there.
5. Save templates of your proposals, and reuse them in other places. Just make sure to make
the necessary changes in order to adapt to the new proposal. You don't want to use the exact
same proposal in two places, because every situation is different.
But, there are many similarities across situations. that is why it is good to save your
proposals so that you may reuse them in the future. Just make sure you tailor the proposals
to match the requirements of the new situation.
6. When you are really confident, don't be afraid to offer premium bids. Premium bids
cost 6 proposals, and they move your rank right to the top of the page, and you get a nice

This shows you really are confident about your job.
7. Bid five times a day, five times a week. I promise you that SOMEBODY will hire you if you
