Can you REALLY make money writing articles at home?

I had the pleasure of talking with a guy over the weekend who’s hoping to make money writing articles at home – but like many people, he’s skeptical.
There are so many scammy opportunities and programs out there on the internet, that it’s no wonder it’s hard to believe this business exists for real, and that it’ll work. I know because at some point, I’ve tried everything online from taking surveys to mystery shopping to Pay Per Click ads for affiliate products. The result? Crash and burn.
The idea of actually getting paid to write sounds like a fairy tale.
For most writers, writing is easy – it’s something we naturally do. I had breakfast with a girlfriend in Dallas yesterday before going to the airport to come home, someone I went to grade school and high school with in New Jersey. I remember from way, way (way…) back that we both loved reading – in fact, it was almost a competitive sport! She mentioned how she instinctively proofreads pretty much everything with words that she comes across. It’s just part of her. Writing is the same way for many people.
So, why not get paid to do something you love to do?
Or, do you want to insist on working “hard” and devalue what you naturally, effortlessly excel in? The part that seems too good to be true about making money writing articles at home is our programming. That programming tells us things about work like:
- That’s why they call it work…
- That’s why they pay you to do it (you wouldn’t want to do it otherwise)
- Making money is hard work
I read a quote recently (wish I could remember where) that went something like this: If you were to win the lottery, and the first thing you’d do is quit your job, you should quit it now – it’s not worth what you’re being paid.
For most freelance writers I know, writing has long been a dream. While writing batches of articles on hair straighteners or dental procedures isn’t exactly what they imagined they’d do someday, at least it’s a lot closer – and writing a book is just a few steps away. In the meantime, it’s an amazing thing to cash checks from your writing clients. Someone is actually paying you for your words – how do you think that feels?
The skepticism is understandable. But my challenge to you is to lay it aside for a moment and understand this:
- The Internet is constantly growing.
- Every site needs copy, articles, blog posts, press releases, etc.
- Someone has to write that stuff.
- It could be you!
If the idea of working from home as a writer earning anywhere from $50 – $150 an hour just writing articles gets you thinking about the possibilities that kind of business could bring to your life, get started now. Get your free report on how to make money writing at home – and read every word. The opportunity is really, really real. : )
