Get paid to write your blog – with Smorty?

If you want to get p aid to write, one great way to do it is by starting a blog. It’s not fast money by any means, but it’s a good move in a few ways:

  1. You’ve got the opportunity to build your portfolio by writing on topics that interest you. If you write your posts the way you’d write a short article (200-350 words), you could easily turn several of these posts into a PDF doc to add to your portfolio.
  2. There’s a growing demand for bloggers. It’s not hard – but there is a little learning curve, and it’s better to practice on your own blog than to practice on a client’s. If you can develop an effective posting style (meaning people are subscribing, commenting, and you’re getting some good traffic) you’ll be in high demand. Make sure you keep statistics on your blog traffic and page rank as it develops.
  3. You can make money doing it. You can add in Google AdSense or allow other ads on your blog, or you can work as an affiliate – when someone buys something you write about on your blog, you’ll get a percentage of the sale.
  4. You can also get paid to review books, products, software, and websites. Usually, you create your blog, make several posts, then apply with a blog advertising site. They review your blog and if you qualify, you’re approved. Then you’re eligible to take on blogging assignments (review this, talk about that, etc.). Your pay generally depends on the project and your page rank.

These are initial steps for anyone to start earning. But it becomes difficult to keep earning only from Adsense. I have an Adsense account and I have only earned 12$ in last two years though I have been getting more than 100 ad clicks a month.

Agreed! While starting with advertising is an easy entry, the best long-term plan would be to eventually add affiliate products (info or physical) to the blog as well. Also, once your page rank is good, you can approach other bloggers and internet marketers about advertising on your blog. Another tactic (gets a little more technical) is to drive traffic to the blog by using PPC ads – you’d have to be sure to keep an eye on your expenses to make sure to stay profitable.
