Build a writing business at a ball game? No, not when it’s 100 degrees out

Well, in theory, building a writing business at a baseball game could work… if it’s not so hot out that nobody comes!

Yesterday was an interesting experiment – but probably not one I’ll repeat. High 90′s for temperature and humidity, threat of rain, Tuesday morning game, networking event sponsored but not really promoted… you do the math! Pretty much the turnout was about 10 people – mostly groups from the same few businesses. And many had that familiar look that says, “I’m OUTSIDE!!!! Woo HOOOOOO!” because they don’t usually get to be outside during the workday.

Plus, they didn’t qualify for the local business promotion service my firm is offering.

How awesome is it to have simple guidelines to help me evaluate instantly whether this local business promotion thing will work for someone I meet! Half the battle in building a writing business is finding clients – but the other half may very well be knowing which clients NOT to take on.

Here’s one more video from Kevin and Jeff about working with local clients. While both of these guys can definitely write, it’s not what they do all day. And of the 100ish people who are in the program right now, I doubt many have professional-level writing skills. So just imagine how much easier this will be for you! If you have some writing talent, you’ve got a built-in advantage! Definitely one of the fastest ways you can get paid to write – even with no paid experience.

Hey – oh yes! Don’t forget to check out the 73 writing gig postings I just put on my other freelance writing blog. (Although honestly, if you can build your writing business with local clients like Kevin and Jeff will teach you, you’ll never need to go poring through lists of gigs again.)
